How Extover® works:
The expanded-glass granulate is applied gently to the source of the fire, surrounding it and smothering the flames. At very high temperatures, the material melts, spreads across the surface like molten glass and forms an airtight seal. As it cools, this layer solidifies and helps prevent the fire from reigniting.
Tested extinguishing performance:
Its effectiveness against metal fires has been tested and confirmed by MPA Dresden using sodium and magnesium fires.
Applications and fire classes:
Extover® is suitable for Class D fire loads involving combustible metals as well as lithium battery fires, including LiPo and lithium-ion batteries. It also helps to prevent damage typically caused by conventional extinguishing agents.
Application in three steps:
- Secure the area: Clear the surrounding area, maintain a safe distance and wear suitable personal protective equipment.
- Cover the source: Apply the granulate gently and generously directly onto the source of the fire.
- Build up the layer: Depending on the object, create a layer approximately 10–30 cm deep until the source is completely covered. Allow it to cool and dispose of contaminated material in accordance with local regulations.
